Mother's Day 2013 Mother's Day in the United States is annually held on the second Sunday of May. This year it will be Sunday, May 12.
SPRING IS FINALLY HERE! Welcome Back. I trust and hope that you had a wonderful Spring Recess. We are moving toward the end of the school year. As we prepare for our next BIG EVENT - Spelling Bee, scheduled for our next PTA Meeting on Tuesday, May 14, 2013, I urge you to make an effort to come out and support our Spelling Bee finalists. The remaining months are filled with exams, and exciting events.
2013 SPELLING BEE RESULTS Congratulations to our 2013 school Spelling Bee participants and finalists! It was another great year for G.O.E.S. spellers. Our students enjoyed themselves showing off their "spelling talents" to the school, parents and teachers. Thank you to Mrs. Liverpool, our Spelling Bee coordinator, and our Chief judge, Mr. Jeffrey Sigler Sr., for making this event such a wonderful experience! First Place Winners: Jasmin Alexander (GK), Nevaeh Hinds ((G1), Avery Jones (G4), and Rivaldo Richardson (G6); Second Place Winners: Antonie Gordon (GK), Christian Fletcher (G2), Kevin Brathwaite (G4), and Saed Phillip (G8); Third Place Winners: Elijah Cadougan (GK), Collin Defreitas (G2); Alexa Depradine (G3), and Handlie Pierrot (G7).
WHY GREAT OAKS?   Why Great Oaks? Great Oaks boasts high achievement in test scores. Last year we outperformed the state, city and neighboring charter schools in New York. Our scholars succeed at gaining admissions into some of the most prestigious Catholic High Schools such as St. Edmunds Preparatory International Baccalaureate World School, Bishop Loughlin Memorial, and Bishop Kearney etc. Our test scores earns us seats in the PREP FOR PREP, PREP9, and TEAK FELLOWSHIP programs yearly. We are partnered with Medgar Evers College of the City University of New York Math Masters Initiative: Students from grades 6-7 receive free classes towards the Specialized High school Exams. We have Special Education Services provided through the New York City Department of Education.
Hurrican Sandy Relief
Today, we pause to pray for and remember all those who have been affected by Hurricane Sandy: More than 100 lives were taken by the storm, on the continent and in Haiti and Cuba. Thousands have been dramatically affected. People have lost their homes to flood and fire. It has devastated coastal communities, especially in New Jersey and New York. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of these people who lost loved ones and/or sustained property damage.
